Compass Records debut album with IBMA Award-winner
“One of the finest singers in bluegrass” —Country Standard Time

Larry Stephenson delivers one of the finest albums of his career on his Compass Records debut What Really Matters. The album comes on the heels of the Larry Stephenson Band’s win for Recorded Event of the Year at the 2010 International Bluegrass Music Awards for his bluegrass star-studded previous effort, 20th Anniversary, Stephenson again teaming up with co-producer Ben Surratt. Armed with 12 outstanding tracks and surrounded by a road-tested band that includes Kenny Ingram (banjo), Kevin Richardson (guitar) and Danny Stewart (bass), Stephenson’s distinctive vocals are showcased to great effect. Standout tracks include the title track and a spirited reworking of “Philadelphia Lawyer” featuring Sam Bush on fiddle and harmony vocals. CLICK HERE TO LISTEN.
Larry Stephenson has been a mainstay of the bluegrass circuit since he launched his solo career 20 years ago. He is considered by many to be one of the premiere torchbearers for the traditional bluegrass sound created by first generation legends Jimmy Martin, Mac Wiseman, Jim & Jesse and The Osborne Brothers. Stephenson has received many awards and accolades form the bluegrass community including multiple IBMA award and five Contemporary Male Vocalist of the Year awards from the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America. Greensky Bluegrass event @ World Cafe Live

My name is Hayley Savage and I am an intern at World Cafe Live in Philly. I am contacting you to see if you could post for Green sky Bluegrass who will be performing on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at 8:00 pm.

Here is some info about the band:

If you’re familiar with bluegrass music, then you’re tuned in to some of what Greensky Bluegrass does. They’re also known to throw a great party, rock n roll, and (if the critics are to be believed) they have great songs. They are unquestionably a team of friends that traverse the country making music they enjoy. What makes Greensky different than Bluegrass? Poignant rural ballads about real people? Dobro tone that Jerry (Douglas or Garcia) would love? Distortion Pedals? Grit and attitude from a whiskey soaked card game? Indeed, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

This quintet from Michigan has been staying up late at all the coolest festivals and stopping to play your favorite clubs and theaters across America for 11 years now. Nearly 175 shows per year has prepared them for the rigorous task of continuity. Greensky Bluegrass isn’t slowing down. They’re coming to your town to help you party down. Yeah. Really. Like you never thought possible.

At the start of the millennium, some of these guys met, then they met more guys. They thought Greensky was a clever name for a bluegrass band. Fast forward to 2011 when they recorded their fourth studio record, called Handguns. Among them, words like, proud, killer, and damn right! have been spoken in regards to the music of Handguns.

While they all may be accurate, we hope you’ll find far more than you expected, hell – even more than we expected contained in this piece work that may well come to define one of 21st Century Americas hardest working musical ensembles.

From the first notes struck together in 2003 through tours with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson, the Greencards have won steadily escalating acclaim for their multi-dimensional Americana vision. Their releases have topped the Billboard Bluegrass charts while two singles have garnered Grammy nominations. This four piece band, spearheaded by Australians Carol Young and Kym Warner, is interested less in past accomplishments than in looking ahead for new goals to achieve. Their latest release is also in many ways their most significant and impressive to date. Produced and engineered by studio veteran Justin Niebank (Vince Gill, Marty Stuart, Keith Urban), The Brick Album is the first to successfully infuse The Greencards’ eclectic musical references with the excitement they generate onstage. Their music is rhythmically irresistible, balancing taste and technique, engaging lyrics and melodies and wildly creative arrangements. There may be a wall on its cover, but the future suggested on these tracks knows no barrier. Each step they’ve taken has widened their appeal. They’ve earned ovations from “newgrass” music devotees at MerleFest and rocked loyalists at Lollapalooza.
